The fulfilment of GNDR’s mission relies on a full engagement of members working together and their capacity to share experiences to enhance communities’ resilience. An integrated regional network is key to GNDR’s impact regionally and locally, supported by appropriate regional and national structures and associated governance systems.
Based on the outcomes of the 2016 Global Summit in Bangkok and the subsequent development of Terms of Reference and consultations with members, GNDR has established Regional Advisory Groups as a new layer of governance in South Asia, South-East/East Asia, West Africa & Central Africa, East Africa, South America, Central America and the Caribbean.
The RAGs have been established to fulfil Priority A ('Improve representative governance structures at regional and national levels') of Outcome 1 ('Strengthened GNDR governance and Secretariat institutional and operational capacities at all levels') of the Strategic Objective 2 of the GNDR Strategy 2016-20 'Stronger Together'.
Depending on the region, the RAGs are composed of 7-15 national members from different countries in each region, as well as one representative of GNDR’s Secretariat and the respective Global Board regional representative. The national focal points were appointed by GNDR members in each country to focus on members’ needs at country level. Furthermore, they help to identify concerns of GNDR’s members in their country. These national bodies facilitate communications with members from the same country and provide support to our Regional Development Coordinators in the development of national networks with both GNDR members and other stakeholders.
