GNDR members and staff participated in this year’s High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in New York on 9-18 July. Organised annually by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, this is where countries come together and review their progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our goal was to advocate risk-informed development, for local level participation in decision-making and policy coherence. Here’s an overview of our activities at the conference.

We participated in this year’s Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). Throughout the conference we advocated for a REAL resilience dividend – one based on Rights, that Empowers communities, holds everyone Accountable, and Leaves no one behind. Here's a summary of our key achievements during the five-day event in Geneva, Switzerland.
Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) is an OFDA/USAID funded project that aims at increasing government, CSO, and CBO capacities in disaster resilience through working together and increasing political commitment to the expansion of innovative community-based solutions.
As a part of the ongoing 3-year ‘Institutionalising Sustainable CBDRM’ project, GNDR organised a regional workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 26-27. Primarily led by Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, GNDR’s regional partner, the workshop was a joint effort between GNDR, ADPC, SEEDS-India and CDP-Philippines. Among the 34 participants, there were 19 women and 15 men.
On 10 and 11 May, our partner RET International implemented the first sub-regional workshop in Panama, gathering 25 representatives from 25 networks across Central America and the Caribbean.
