We participated in this year’s Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, organised by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). Throughout the conference we advocated for a REAL resilience dividend – one based on Rights, that Empowers communities, holds everyone Accountable, and Leaves no one behind. Here's a summary of our key achievements during the five-day event in Geneva, Switzerland.
Community Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) is an OFDA/USAID funded project that aims at increasing government, CSO, and CBO capacities in disaster resilience through working together and increasing political commitment to the expansion of innovative community-based solutions.
As a part of the ongoing 3-year ‘Institutionalising Sustainable CBDRM’ project, GNDR organised a regional workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 26-27. Primarily led by Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, GNDR’s regional partner, the workshop was a joint effort between GNDR, ADPC, SEEDS-India and CDP-Philippines. Among the 34 participants, there were 19 women and 15 men.
On 10 and 11 May, our partner RET International implemented the first sub-regional workshop in Panama, gathering 25 representatives from 25 networks across Central America and the Caribbean.
GNDR in partnership with RET international held on 23 and 24 April, a regional workshop attended by 35 Civil Society Organisations in Panama City to identify the success factors of institutionalisation of a sustainable CBDRM.
Hosted by GNDR, the 4th edition of GNDR Global Summit "Stronger Together: Connecting Communities" was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the 22nd-25th of May 2018 at the Hilton Petaling Jaya Hotel.

From 11th to 13th December 2017, members from West Africa attended GNDR's regional workshop in Bamako, Mali for an update on the organisation ongoing activities and discuss the network’s impact both at global and regional level.
Discover innovations and technology to improve humanitarian aid operations and community resilience in Africa, with a dedicated session to examine disaster response activities to recent drought emergency in East Africa and improving disaster preparedness and reduction.
2017| Regional Caribbean workshop
The workshop was an opportunity to introduce GNDR's new regional governance structure and to promote the benefits of sharing knowledge and best practices at region level. Participants are coming from all over the LAC region. Organised by GNDR's Regional Development Coordinator in LAC, Mave Bastias, the subregional workshop aimed at identifying appropriate actions for our members to work together in order to enhance their disaster management and advocacy capacity.
