GPDRR: What we’re doing and how you can get involved

The 7th Session of GPDRR takes place from 23-28 May 2022 in Bali, Indonesia.

Throughout the event we’ll be calling on global decision makers, member states and civil society organisations to work together on eight priority action areas. You can join in by sharing our key messages on social media.

Innovation booth

23-27 May – All day

Every day throughout the event we’ll be showcasing our new online Risk-Informed Development Guide at our innovation booth. This multipage resource provides a practical approach to risk-informed development for civil society organisations and communities most at risk.

 

Member briefings

23-27 May – Daily at 08:00-08:30

Each morning before the conference begins we’ll be running an in-person briefing session for GNDR members. We’ll give a recap of our policy calls to action and share sessions that members are participating in.

 

Stakeholder Forum: Opening Ceremony

23 May – 09:00-10:00

Adessou Kossivi, our Acting Regional Lead for Africa will be moderating the Opening Ceremony, which will set the stage for an all-of-society approach within the Global Platform. Read more.

 

Plans and Opportunities for the future of Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM)

23 May – 11:30 – 12:30 

Rebecca Murphy, our Policy Lead will be speaking at this session which will showcase how the SEM continues to have an influencing role and is a crucial contributor to key DRR global development fora and processes. Read more.

 

NGO Major Group Constituency Side Session

23 May – 14:00 – 15:30

This session invites all civil society organisations to join the NGO Major Group constituency to discuss the SEM NGO Major Group official statement. It also provides an opportunity for organisations to collaborate and strengthen participation in the NGO Major Group. Rebecca Murphy, our Policy Lead will be speaking. Read more.

 

UNDRR Stakeholder Engagement Mechanism (SEM) Reflections on the Sendai Framework Midterm Review

24 May – 11:00 – 12:30

The Sendai Framework Midterm Review provides a retrospective review of progress achieved so far and a view on what needs to be done in the future to address current and emerging issues. Ahead of this event GNDR conducted a Civil Society Consultation of the Mid-Term Review of the Sendai Framework Implementation. This session will be moderated by Rebecca Murphy, Focal Point of SEM and GNDR Policy Lead. Read more.

 

Breaking the Silos – Towards multi-hazard, multi-sectoral approaches to managing risks

Our Executive Director, Bijay Kumar will be speaking at this session which will showcase good practice and learnings from multi-hazard and multi-sector risk assessments  conducted at regional, national, and sub-national levels. Read more.

 

Addressing loss and damage, supporting the most vulnerable: lessons from DRR and climate change action

25 May – 17:30 – 19:00

This multi-stakeholder side event focuses on loss and damage associated with climate change impacts, recognising that loss and damage are already occurring and disproportionately affecting the most vulnerable people, communities and countries, including through disaster displacement and planned relocation. Adessou Kossivi, our Acting Africa Lead and climate change risk driver lead, will be speaking. Read more.

 

Left behind, left out, left unsafe: A dialogue on Leaving No One Behind in the face of disaster risk

At this side event, the CADRI Partnership brings together government, civil society organisations, and partners to discuss lessons and good practices to effectively integrate those most at risk of being left behind into the decision making process concerning programming and planning of disaster risk reduction interventions. Community Voices: Hearing live from those living on the frontline of risk

26 May – 10:15 – 11:30

The session on the Ignite Stage provides an opportunity to understand the process of how our flagship programme, Views from the Frontline has helped communities to identify their own risks and develop their own plans to address the issues and get them integrated into local development plans. Speakers include Bijay Kumar, Executive Director; Becky Murphy, Policy Lead; Lewis Makurumure, Eastern Africa Regional Representative; and other GNDR members. Read more.

 

Strengthening Governance to Reduce Disaster Displacement Risks

26 May – 14:15 – 15:45 

This session will discuss data and governance, and specifically the inclusion of disaster displacement in DRR strategies and policies, as well as the integrated implementation of these strategies and policies. Read more.

 

Learning from local risk realities and voices in displacement

26 May – 18:30 – 20:00

This event will facilitate shared learning on the challenges faced by displaced communities, and seeks to hear different perspectives on risk realities of prolonged urban displacement. Read more.

 

Accelerating disability inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction

26 May – 18:45 – 20:15 

At this event, four panellists will present good practices and success stories from their roles in ensuring disability inclusion in DRR in a Covid-19 impacted world. Speakers include Shivangi Chavda, Senior Regional Lead – Asia & Europe, who will discuss the extent to which persons with disabilities are present in DRR related decision-making processes.
