Description
A one-day national workshop was organized at IIC Delhi on the 12th of January 2016 on Translating Global Frameworks to Frontline Resilience Action. The workshop was hosted by SEEDS and AADRR with support from GNDR, Christian Aid, CANSA, and ADRRN. The primary objectives of this workshop were:
- to share the results of Frontline study and,
- to provide a national platform to all partners, networks and CSOs working on varied issues of DRR, CCA, livelihood, health, sustainability, and development issues, in light of global frameworks such as Sendai Framework for DRR, Paris Agreement, Sustainable Developmental Goals, World Humanitarian summit and Habitat III.
The participants were 52 local CSOs from across 10 states of India; in the workshop from various risk zones. Eminent facilitators who were part of formation of respective global frameworks and negotiations facilitated the workshop.
The facilitators brought in the understanding of these frameworks and its convergence at the local level to build resilience of the communities. The interactive workshop churned out the key priority action points emerging out of each of these frameworks, the barriers to attain them and the key action points. There was emphasis on developing a monitoring and accountability tool to measure the progress in each of these frameworks at the local level and the need for bottom up approach for allocation and utilization of the resources.
The key priority actions listed were:
- a. Mapping local ecosystem vulnerabilities through evidence-based research;
- b. Working on sustainable local livelihoods;
- c. Marrying local and state-of-the-art technology for building resilience;
- d. Partnership between CSOs, local legislators, line departments;
- e. Bring in Urban focus and;
- f. Private sector engagement and collaboration on sustainability and resilience.
The workshop was rounded up with the conclusive remarks from the Member National Disaster Management Authority [NDMA] Mr.Kamal Kishore, Government of India on response of the GoI on the frameworks at national level.
