In February, GNDR had the honour of attending a special reception at Buckingham Palace hosted by Their Majesties The King and Queen. The event brought together humanitarian organisations from across the globe to recognise and celebrate the life-saving work being carried out in some of the world’s most challenging contexts.

Members of GNDR’s global board and secretariat were present at the reception – representing not only the organisation itself, but the entire GNDR network of over 1,900 member organisations working in more than 130 countries.

The invitation reflects the growing recognition of the essential role that civil society plays in responding to crises and building resilience at the local level.

Speaking following the event, GNDR’s Executive Director Marcos Concepcion Raba said:

“At a time when the humanitarian sector is under enormous stress, we are honoured to be invited by Their Majesties to Buckingham Palace for a humanitarian reception to recognise the work of organisations who are working tirelessly for those on the frontline of crises.

“We are extremely proud to be representing our incredible network of members – local and national organisations who are committed to ensuring that the voices and priorities of those most at risk of disaster are heard and acted upon.

“This event is a perfect example of the solidarity needed to address the most pressing challenges of our time. We send our heartfelt thanks to Their Majesties for the opportunity to be a part of it.”

“I warmly welcome the recognition shown by Their Majesties The King and Queen for the vital work of humanitarian organisations, including GNDR. Our collective efforts to reduce inequalities and strengthen the resilience of those most vulnerable to disasters – especially the increasing frequency and intensity of climate-related events – are more important than ever.”

From natural hazards and conflict, to climate-induced displacement , GNDR members are at the forefront of efforts to reduce risk, strengthen community preparedness, and build long-term resilience. Their efforts are vital in ensuring that humanitarian response is not only rapid and effective, but locally-led and inclusive.

This royal recognition is a testament to the power of collective action – and a reminder that lasting change is only possible when communities are empowered, and their leadership is respected and supported.
