In the second video participants will learn about the 6 principles of safeguarding (empowerment, protection, prevention, proportionality, partnership and accountability), internal policies (ie whistleblowing) and power dynamics.
The third video shows two case studies, which explore some of the complexities of safeguarding in real world contexts: Oxfam International in Haiti and the Bacha Bazi in Afghanistan. These case studies demonstrate what happens when safeguarding is not implemented properly, and when we don’t have the right discussions and don’t put human rights at the core of everything that we do
In the fourth video participants will get a better understanding of the importance of safeguarding in disaster risk reduction, in particular related to the increase in vulnerability of specific groups following a disaster.
In the final video of the safeguarding series participants will learn about the importance of a survivor- centred approach to safeguarding, including support to survivors of harm, and best practices around reporting, confidentiality, recruitment, etc.
