In advance of the workshop, nearly 90 cases of successful CBDRM initiatives from the regions were collected. The cases were then evaluated against a framework that was developed in consultation with partners and through desk research. This evaluation process was used to rate the collected cases for various attributes. The cases were then ranked and the organisations that submitted the top 30 cases – meaning the cases that showcased elements of sustainability and institutionalization – were invited to this regional workshop. The participants spent two days together, holding rigorous debates, and finally populate a list of factors, that most of the organizations agreed as the top priority to ensure the sustainability of institutionalized CBDRM.
