International Day for Disaster Reduction 2016

Every year, the 13th of October is a celebration of efforts toward the reduction of disasters worldwide. The slogan this year, selected by UNISDR is "Live to tell" to support a campaign to create a wave of awareness about actions taken to reduce mortality around the world. Find below about activities from GNDR members to celebrate this day.

To celebrate the IDDR2016, a National Women's Convention in Sierra Leone was held in the capital city Freetown. The Convention gathered women farmers and youth activists from all over the country.
A 'Talk - Shop' where relevant disaster management agencies in the country shared their work and what they can do together to reduce disaster risks, build resilient communities and reduce mortality associated with disaster events.
GNDR Secretariat celebrates the IDDR 2016 by publishing two blogs around the need to curb down mortality from disasters by promoting prevention and investing money in it. The Secretariat also joined in a huge Thunderclap organised by UNISDR.
