CBDRM regional workshop in Bangkok

As a part of the ongoing 3-year ‘Institutionalising Sustainable CBDRM’ project, GNDR organised a regional workshop in Bangkok, Thailand, on April 26-27. Primarily led by Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, GNDR’s regional partner, the workshop was a joint effort between GNDR, ADPC, SEEDS-India and CDP-Philippines. Among the 34 participants, there were 19 women and 15 men.

All is gone except our ability to breathe

"...When we found out the lives of our fellow community members were taken by TC Winston, we had no clue what to be done, we felt like we were dead as well, as we have no hope, when everything we had is gone except our ability to breathe..." says a woman survivor of tropical cyclone Winston. Jiuta Korovulavula, a GNDR member from Fiji, has visited their kin on the aftermath and shares with you a raw, personal view of the impact of TC Winston on the lives and livelihoods of many Fijians.

Expanding a community of best practice: South East Asia and the Pacific

Rex Horoi and Stu Solomon report on regional dialogue discussions today between South East Asia and the Pacific Islands groups, under the GNDR and the Frontline programme banners, to strengthen inter-regional cooperation. The outcome was several proposals to strengthen coherence in policies, implementation and monitoring on the post 2015 frameworks, to create shared knowledge and learning spaces for the regions,  and to identify ways that civil society can work together to support the monitoring process at both the national and local level.

Reality or Delusion?

"We entered today to the Conference Centre from different lines: one for Civil Society, the other one for diplomats and government officials. What would happen if there is a fire? Would there be priorities in saving lives whether you are a government official, diplomat or an NGO worker and go through our respective doors again? or would we use any door to get out and be safe?" writes Rex Horoi, GNDR Global Board member for Pacific region, to illustrate how this post 2015 DRR framework should not maintain lines and divisions but be for the future benefit of all human kind.
