Why support GNDR

Millions of people worldwide live with the constant threat of disasters, whether from climate-induced hazards like floods and droughts or forced displacement due to conflict. Yet, too often, these communities are excluded from the decision-making processes that directly impact their lives.

By supporting GNDR, you’re embracing a bold approach. One that puts local communities in the control of the solutions that reduce their risk. Your investment will support a network of over 1,800 grassroots organisations across 130 countries, united in our efforts to:

  • Inspire community-led action that’s rooted in the needs and lived experiences of people on the frontline of disaster
  • Bring civil society together, creating spaces where people can listen, learn and work together to create a safer, more resilient world
  • Amplify local voices at national, regional and international levels, ensuring their perspectives shape policies that affect their lives

Stories of impact

In Rathnapura District, Sri Lanka annual rainfall averages up to 5,000 mm. By comparison, most European cities receive less than 20% of this. Using research from our flagship project Views from the Frontline, civil society organisation and GNDR member, Janathakshan Gte Ltd, coordinated the creation of four community action plans to strengthen community resilience.
